The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently published the new Energy Star Luminaire Specifications version 1.0 draft 1 and requested industry feedback. The new luminaire specification is will combine and replace the current EPA’s RLF specifications and the DOE’s SSL specifications sometime in 2011. LEDdynamics feels that this is a step forward for the Energy Star program, however, there are many issues that need to be addressed in order to make this a successful luminaire program.

Our comments touched base on CCT restrictions, power factor correction issues, energy efficiency, inseparable luminaires, and limitations on lifetime claims. The letter is available for download from the PDF link below or the Energy Star website.
