| 03030 DimeDriver mounted to threaded aluminum base. |
|
The 03030 2-Cell LED Drive module was designed to power (1) Luxeon I (or equiv.) and to allow the LED to be mounted directly above the driver board, creating a compact LED & Driver solution for many portable lighting applications. Borrowing its technology from the MicoPuck, the DimeDriver powers (1) Luxeon I LED from two cells (3-Volts) efficiently and with stability.
The DimeDriver has been designed to provide maximum illumination to the LED while still mimicking the light drop off of an incandescent bulb, which dims as the batteries are used up. Unlike an incandescent bulb, the driver's current consumption drops at very low voltages, allowing usable light to be produced much longer than conventional flashlights. Battery recovery (after the flashlight has been turned off) is also improved.

Key Benefits of the 03030 LED Drive Module:
- Cost: The 03030 represents a low cost, small
option for providing current to LEDs with forward voltage in excess of the supply voltage.
- Longevity: The 03030 output follows the voltage
of the batteries, but in a manner that provides more light during the mid-life of the batteries The unit
can turn on with as little as 0.8V.
- Design ease: See mounting designs for use with this product (Below).
- Safety: The unit is a low-voltage device for safe handling. The unit is short circuit and open circuit tolerant.

Suggested Mounting for the 03030 DimeDriver
 |
Figure 1: The 03030 PC board has three holes. The large hole in the center allows the pedestal to protrude for LED mounting above the board. The medium hole is for the mounting screw to secure the driver to the base and provide ground (-) to the circuit. The small hole is for the positive (+) contact wire to pass through to the bottom side. The board thickness does not include the circuit components. (All units are inches) |
 |
Figure 2: The mounting base needs to incorporate the dimensions shown for proper performance of the LED and driver. Design this base unit to be integrated into the flashlight assembly. Material used should have high thermal conductance (aluminum, brass, etc.) and should be mounted to materials that will maximize heat dissipation. |
 |
Figure 3: 03030 illustrated as a complete assembly using a Luxeon I lambertian emitter. Mounting screw secures the driver to the base and provides ground for the circuit. The positive contact wire connects to the power source positive terminal (battery +) and needs to be insulated from the base of the unit. The leads of the Luxeon LED need to be bent down to make contact and to be soldered to the board. |
